Why You Can't Stay Consistent With Exercise After 50 (And What To Do About It)
If you've ever found yourself saying "I fell off the wagon again," you're not alone.
So many women over 50 start and stop exercise routines over and over — not because they lack willpower, but because the deck is genuinely stacked against them right now.
Here's the truth: exercising in your 50s comes with a unique set of challenges that most fitness advice simply ignores.
Your body has changed.
Menopause symptoms like joint pain, poor sleep, brain fog, and fatigue make it harder to show up consistently.
Add you’re busier than ever — aging parents, demanding careers, kids — self-care is usually the first thing to go.
Are you trying to exercise the same way you always did?
Many women over 50 also make the mistake of trying to exercise the way they always did.
The same running routine, the same cardio classes, the same intensity - you get what I mean.
But recovery takes longer now, injuries happen more easily, and one setback can derail months of progress.
How you eat is super important too.
Cutting carbs and slashing calories might seem like the logical approach (what we used to do), but it actually creates more stress on an already-stressed body.
Plus, you’re probably trying to do too much.
If you find yourself stopping and starting an exercise routine over and over again, the fix is simpler than you think.
Start with something so small it feels almost ridiculous — a 2-minute walk, one yoga pose, five minutes of stretching before bed. Seriously.
Find some kind of movement you actually enjoy, that can fit realistically into your life, and just do it consistently.
You don't need to go hard. You just need to keep going.
Consistency is more important that intensity.
